Unlisted’s newest signing, Mardo, has released a mesmerising new music video for The Cranberries’ iconic track Zombie, reimagined by Iain Cook of CHVRCHES.
Drawing from never-before-seen rushes of the original 1994 shoot – captured on film by director Samuel Bayer – Mardo crafted a haunting new film that blends live-action fragments with bold typography and gritty design.
“I wanted the visuals to mirror the energy of the remix,” says Mardo. “My aim was to distil the unrest of the era by fusing raw performance moments with poster-inspired graphics and propaganda-style art direction. I wanted to create something that felt both timeless and urgent.”
The project marks an exciting creative milestone for Mardo, a New Zealand-based director known for his design-led, mixed-media approach across advertising and music videos. With a background in graphic design and a knack for merging animation, live action and motion graphics, Mardo’s work is driven by versatility and a sharp visual instinct.
“We’ve admired Mardo’s ability to move between design, animation and live action for a while now,” says Monaliza Ziba, Producer at Unlisted. “His newest video shows exactly why we’re so excited to have him on the Unlisted roster.”
With commercial clients ranging from Toyota and Samsung to Visa and McDonald’s, Mardo brings craft, clarity and a distinct point of view to everything he touches.
